Melaleuca hypericifolia is one of those plants that is so undemanding and yet beautiful with or without flowers. It is a very similar flower to the Callistemon. Like the Callistemon it is suitable to make into hedges or windbreaks, though mine is stands solitary near the front entrance. The birds love it. I like the way this plant has a gentle colour and is more unassuming than the Callistemon, that shouts to be noticed.
I wonder if it would thrive in my dry part of the UK. I did have a Callistemon for a few years.

I would think it probably would. Martha had one growing in San Diego. How does their climate compare with yours? It must be tough as it grows here in diverse climates, from hot to cold.

East Anglia UK, dry and mild, when it is not having a cold, hot or wet spell.

Sounds like our climate! Though I think our hot weather might be hotter perhaps.

Like M-R, I thought they were the same plant, too. Barbara, I’ve looked it up and they both belong to the Myrtaceae Family a step further back which explains the bottlebrush flowers. My bottlebrush (Callistemon) was barely flowering for a couple of years, and I read somewhere that giving it a good whack would encourage flowering. I did, and it did!

That other one, the lime coloured one, that I couldn’t name is most probably one of the Melaleuca family too.

So pleased you know this one! I love it, and it isn’t nearly as popular as the callistemon.
