This prompt asks for one message, I shall limit myself to three letters. I have the irritating habit, like getting a stone in my shoe; that aggravates until I write a letter. In recent times I have written to a football club suggesting singing lessons would be to their advantage. Of course there was no response to this letter, nor any change to their bellowing, discordant theme song at the end of each game.
Another niggle prompted a letter to the Pope. After writing to Cardinal Pell asking him to renounce his Order Of Australia, I received a wad of papers in response, ignoring my question. The next step a letter to Rome was in order. This letter to the Pope, both complimented him on his fresh approach to his new position, and included a complaint about Cardinal Pell. The latter figure was in a position of power when paedophile priests were destroying children’s lives. The priests kept their jobs, only being transferred to other areas to wreck other lives. I asked that Cardinal Pell should lose his position as head of the R.C. Church in Australia, as he lacked the responsibility to protect his parishioners.
Soon after, Cardinal Pell was transferred to Rome. (Now I thought the Mafia might take things in their own hands). Although I didn’t get a response from the Pope, this transfer prompted me to write and thank the Pope, saying: actions speak louder than words! During none of this correspondence did I mention that I was not a member of their religious community, but a concerned citizen.
Writing letters helps me get things off my chest, much as a blog does. It is therapy, so thank you for being my therapist and listening/ reading my ravings.
You’ve been given the opportunity to send one message to one person you wouldn’t normally have access to…. Who is the person you choose, and what’s the message? Ben Huberman

My request would be to the Pope too, to consider the good of humanity and support contraception.

Will you write Hilary? I agree totally! I think his heart is in the right place, but probably up against lots of traditionalists!

At first I thought you were joking about writing a letter of complaint to the Pope. That’s hilarious – a non-Catholic to book!!
I totally agree with you about the appalling lack of appropriate response to scandal in the church … but it would never occur to me to write to the Pope! You’re awesome! 🙂

Joanne, I hadn’t considered it awesome, but that makes me feel really good, thank you!! 🙂

Love it Barbara. Glad it helps you vent but I just loved that you wrote to the Pope when you aren’t a RC. I guess that doesn’t stop you but I would never have thought to do it. Well done.

Cheeky, I know, but most wouldn’t get around to it, so I did!!

Wow, impressed. When I was secretary of a little rural firebrigade in the Western District, I wrote letter after letter to politicians and other people in authority. We ended up getting our a 4×4 fire-truck!

My father, bless him, is regularly Correspondent of the Day at the Richmond Times-Dispatch. Oh, how he adores writing a letter that stirs up a bit of controversy! Highly opinionated, the old boy, and getting more vocal about it as the years go on!

I can relate well to your father, Barbara! I am getting worse as I get older! It does help to relieve the pressure writing a letter!
🙂 Glad this comment of yours was rescued from the spam folder too!

I have written to many politicians over the years. Sometimes no response but often the standard one answer fits all response and a bundle of ‘we are doing a wonderful job’ material. I just hope, despite the reply, someone is counting the letters.

If it makes us feel better, regardless of whether the letters are counted, it’s worthwhile! 🙂

I had no idea you’re a serial letter-writer, Ba !!! – what fun !I’ve written letter to authorities in the past, knowing full well they wouldn’t respond; and it’s done a fair bit for venting my spleen, too ! I LOVE that you wrote demanding Pell’s removal ! – GOODONYER !!!!

Am glad you’ve found this therapy too! The worst thing is when they respond with a general letter with no reference to your own. My second letter to the Pope was very tongue in cheek!

I wrote one such letter, to President Nixon back in 1974. I got a post card saying, “Thank you for supporting the president.” I hadn’t supported the president. I’d asked him to quit lying.

I wrote to John Howard to thank him for the gun legislation, the only good thing he did in office!
Your response from Nixon was like mine from Cardinal Pell, ignoring my letter totally.
