Forgive or become bitter: Daily Prompt

This prompt allows me to express something a very wise woman said to me when I returned from overseas in a rather broken state.

My husband had left me for another woman.

Of course I was mad, of course I was furious! In fact I felt I could kill him, I was so crazy with grief.

This wise woman said, ‘don’t let it eat you up! If you don’t forgive him, you will become bitter. This is something that can change your life for the worse. You are in charge; don’t let him get the better of you. Once you forgive him, you can let go of that anger. Then you can resume a positive attitude and you will get back on track. Everything will fall into place for you.’

And she was right!

I was bullied at school. I didn’t manage to forgive them until I was 28 but when I did it was as if someone had flicked a happy switch in my brain. It’s definitely good advice.

Too right. It’s the key to everything, not just happiness but strength, conviction… all of it. 😉 Baggage is just pointless but it is hard to let it go sometimes.

Hi Barbara, pingbacks are provided automatically by WordPress. It has to do with when you include links in your post or someone else provides a link to your post in theirs. I’m not sure which way round this one is because you provide a link in your post but this post is also included in the list of links at “Chronicles of an Anglo Swiss” (click on the pingback to see it). I’m sorry if I’ve just made things more confusing. All I really wanted to say was that the pingbacks are automatic.

There are certain people I will never forgive. But have found freedom in no longer plotting revenge, putting the hurt in an obscure place in my mind. I find my serenity in governing myself in a manner wherein I am never the source of anyone’s misfortune.

Carl, it sounds as if you have worked out what is right for you. Keeping your serenity in tact and not harming others sounds pretty good to me!

I’m doing my utmost to imagine you wanting to kill anybody … Nup, it won’t come. But I do believe you, Ba ! – it’s just that you seem like the last person on earth to carry a grudge, let alone murderous intentions !

You are astute M-R, Chris said the same thing! I just said to allow me a little poetic licence!
The fact that I was relieved, underneath, didn’t mean that my feelings weren’t hurt!! The advice still holds!

Why can’t I get the answers to go where they should? You’re over-doing the positives M-R, I hope this positivity isn’t contagious!!
