Today I decided to share an easy recipe that is always good to have tucked away, for those times when you don’t feel like baking. This can be used on icecream or poured over poached pears.
- 4 oz. unsweetened chocolate or 4 tablespoons of cocoa,
- 11/2 cups sugar
- 11/2 cups water
- 11/2 tablespoons cornflour (or one bare tbsp for a thinner sauce)
- 1 teaspoon butter
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla essence
Boil to required consistency. It needs to be easy to pour over icecream.
Original recipe written by Mrs. W. T. Findlay, Campbell Town, Tasmania
published in ‘The 21st Birthday Cookery Book of the Country Women’s Association in Tasmania’ 1963
Oh my word, now I’m hungry… must check cupboards for ingredients 😀

It’s a handy one! I had someone to lunch today and of course, took the photo!
I’m having a hell of a time with my e-mail trying to send you a message. It won’t stop sending, and it’s like a constipated cow, nothing is happening. I’ve deleted your messages, and it’s still sending, since yesterday, and nothing has left here….? Total frustration….

Good grief, woman! – you should be shot at dawn! How DARE you post an easy recipe for chocolate sauce to be poured over icecream??!! Sighh … Thank heavens my mate Joanna is overseas: otherwise I would be obliged to make this. [M.R.R flicks calendar pages to check on her friend’s return …] 😀
